Popular criticisms of social media often allude to echo chambers and the role they play in exacerbating political polarisation. Empirical evidence about echo chambers, however, continues to be debated. In this project, we explore these assumptions using formal network modelling to investigate how polarisation may arise in various simulated network configurations, and validate these findings using empirical data.
