The Metrification of Online News Production

A short summary of the project’s aims:
Digital platforms have had a profound impact on how the public receives and consumes media. In this project, we investigate how social media have changed the ways in which 1) people consume news and 2) how news is produced in the first place. We look at how media outlets track audience metrics to decide what news to publish, as well as how they compete for audience attention on these platforms.
