Congratulations to Professor Miguel Escobar Valera for receiving an Honourable Mention at the Singapore Reproducibility Awards 2024
We are delighted to share the exciting news that Professor Miguel Escobar Varela, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities (CSSH), has received an Honourable Mention at the Singapore Reproducibility Awards 2024. This recognition highlights his outstanding commitment to open research in the field of Computational Humanities.
In the emerging field of the computational humanities, openly sharing code and data becomes essential for building upon previous findings and ensuring reproducibility. Miguel’s work exemplifies this ethos. His book “Theater as Data” (University of Michigan Press, 2021), published as an Open Access book, explores the application of computational methods for historical and comparative studies of the performing arts. The accompanying code and datasets are freely accessible on the publisher’s website and on GitHub, facilitating further research, as well as using these materials in teaching, or validating the results. Beyond this book, Miguel and his team consistently share code, data, and machine learning models on platforms like GitHub and Hugging Face. This approach not only promotes transparency but also fosters collaboration and accelerates progress in the computational study of the humanities.
Congratulations to Professor Escobar Varela on this outstanding achievement!
